The most epic showdown of Christmas hits theaters on November 18. Premieres ‘kings vs santa‘in which you can see the eternal rivalry between the Three Kings and Santa Claus for who is the most popular and beloved character of the holidays. Karra Elejalde, David Verdaguer Y matias janick They get into the skin of the iconic Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, who will have a tough fight with Andres Almeidawho gets into the skin of Saint Nicholas. “We feel very happy and happy to interpret their three majesties of the East”points Verdaguer, who warns that they also felt “a lot of responsibility”. “Let’s hope you like it”.
The Three Wise Men, fed up with Santa Claus taking more and more prominence from them, have decided to confront without knowing that this war will awaken a much more dangerous common enemy, the Krampus, which had been inactive for centuries. This will force the MOB, the Universal Commission and Brotherhood of Magical Beings, to join forces to prevent this evil figure, who feeds on the spirit of Christmas, from coming back to life.
Unlike other Christmas proposals produced in Spain, ‘Kings against Santa’ is committed to bringing the fantastic genre to the cinemas, a genre that tends to be lavished little in the Spanish film industry. “I’ve been in several comedies before and I’ve known how to enjoy them, but with this film, I’m embarking on a different project. I like being in an adventure, fantasy film that has magic. It’s so cool to play Gaspar, a king magician who looks like a superhero. I’m crazy, I wish I could fly”, David Verdaguer, who plays King Gaspar, stands out in an interview with eCartelera in Madrid.
“It is a privilege to be able to participate in a film of this category. Through our characters, we represent a story of adventures, of magical worlds, full of special effects. The fantasy genre is amazing and of course we couldn’t miss this opportunity“shares Matías Janick, who gets into the skin of King Baltasar. “I had never had the opportunity to do adventures or fantasy“adds Verdaguer.
“I had not made an adventure film, or magical worlds, in which there are elves or supernatural beings. I like to be in a magical proposition like ‘The endless story‘, ‘Momo’ or ‘Harry Potter‘“comments Karra Elejalde, who is King Melchor on the tape. “If the fantastic genre works well abroad, why don’t we do it here? Right now, it’s a cinema that works and I think we can bet more on this type of film. We are at the same level as other international markets”adds Janick.
Baltasar, the favorite wizard king
Regarding which Wizard King is the favorite of the cast, Baltasar wins by a landslide. “When they ask me if I am from Santa Claus or from the Three Wise Men, my answer is always clear: Baltasar. It all comes down to Baltasar. I remember, when I was little, when the Three Wise Men brought me a Scalextric, mounted in the middle of the room. I asked my father which of the three had left it to me, my father told me that Baltasar. From that moment on, he is my favorite king. My favorite is Baltasar and I always write the letter to him.”confess paco caballerodirector of the film.
‘Reyes contra Santa’ overturns the prejudice that Three Kings Day is celebrated only in Spain, as it is also a deeply rooted tradition in Mexico. “We, in Mexico, have a very beautiful tradition. We break the Rosca de Reyes on January 6. It is a very familiar moment, because we all get together to eat the rosca, which is usually giant. The idea is that whoever likes He touches the little doll that is inside the cake, on February 2, the one who touched the figure has to make hot chocolate and tamales for the whole family. This celebration, which is like a continuation, we call it the Candlemas. It is a tradition very big in Mexico”details Andrés Almeida, who plays Santa Claus in this family adventure.
