In less than a month of release, it was the second most-watched English-language Netflix series in the history of the platform! Having said that, it is clear that season 2 of the series is already highly anticipated, as fortunately, on January 6, its renewal was confirmed. But when will the Wednesday series be released, and what can we expect from the second season? Find out in the article.
The Netflix series, Wednesday
Netflix’s Wednesday is a spin-off from The Addams Family franchise centering on the eldest of the Addams children, Wednesday. The first season of the series is fun, wonderful, whimsical and fluently dark, shows the girl in the Addams Family, who, rebelling against her mother and father, is sent to Nevermore Academy in Vermont. In the academy, she finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery involving the students, the locals, and all other kinds of monsters and ghouls. In the end, Wednesday manages to uncover the killer and mends relations with his parents. She learns to be a friend, but, of course, without losing her morbid character.
Is there a release date for Season 2 of Netflix’s Wednesday series?
The show’s Twitter account confirmed on January 6, 2023 that the show is going to be renewed for a second season. Wednesday series 2 doesn’t yet have a release date, but it’s likely to return in 2024, given that the cast and crew haven’t started filming yet. But this is just a guess, coming from the fact that the filming of the first season took place between September 2021 and March 2022 and the series was only released in November 2022.
Who will return for the second season?
In the second season, we can expect that Jenna Ortega reprises his role as Wednesday Addams, along with fellow Addams Family actors Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez, as Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley. Plus, Wednesday’s Nevermore bandmates Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White) will no doubt be back. And although Gwendoline Christie’s Larissa Weems dies in the final episodes, it’s unclear if she won’t return. It’s a supernatural series and there are always ways people can come back.
In the first season finale, the Hyde is caught, but it looks like he will most likely escape custody. However, a stalker comes to light, as evidenced by the chilling messages sent to Wednesday as she leaves school. While she thought finding the Hyde was the end of all trouble, which parallels the novel she’s been writing since the series began, she realizes it’s all just begun.
Release Wednesday Netflix: Intrigue in season 2
Wednesday Season 2 is expected to have a two-year time jump from the events of the first season. It’s also possible that his family will be further exposed, which will help us better understand Wednesday’s past. In an interview about what to expect in the second season, the creators of the series revealed:
“We would like to somehow explore and further complicate all relationships. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for the second season, and I think that’s something we’re looking forward to exploring. For us, the series is also about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid at the center. The fact that they connected with the public was very gratifying for us. So, we’re excited to explore now that Wednesday has dipped his toe in the friendship pool, what’s that going to look like? It’s as if she had a hug. That was his big arc for the season, right? So, it is as if, presently, we were doing that. Then the other thing that’s really interesting is continuing to explore the mother-daughter relationship between Wednesday and Morticia, which now that Morticia knows about the power has given her an idea of how it might go . How will their relationship evolve?
So it looks like Wednesday season 2 is going to take everything we loved about season 1 and amp it up – stay tuned for more!
