Old illustration of Nostradamus.
It is one of the great mysteries of humanity, or perhaps rather, one of the greatest coincidences. Be that as it may, when the last bars of the year approach, it is more than usual for some particular balances of an iconic character from the 16th century to emerge who always inevitably returns to the present. This is Michel de Nôtre-Dame, also called Michel Nostradame, but whom you will know by the Latinization of his name and his feared prophecies: Nostradamus.
In this sense, the French apothecary who has gone down in history as one of the greatest fortune tellers left all his predictions in writing in the work The Prophets (The Prophecies) a collection of 942 poetic quatrains that supposedly predict future events.
First of all, it is necessary to emphasize that all these supposed prophecies are written in a very cryptic way. What is certain is that most academic sources reject the idea that Nostradamus had supernatural prophetic abilities and maintain that the links between world events and Nostradamus’ poetic work are nothing more than misinterpretations or mistranslations.
However, there are many people who have seen too much similarity between his words and some historical events that resemble
What has been accomplished so far
Undoubtedly, the fame of Nostradamus has remained valid until our time for having -supposedly- hit questions such as the fall of the Twin Towers in the attack on September 11, 2001, but also great moments of the 20th century such as the rise to the power of Adolf Hitler or the explosion of the nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, after the US attack that put an end to the last conflict of World War II.
Another of the famous were the assassinations of the Kennedys, that of John F. Kennedy and the later of his brother Robert Kennedy. The quatrain that supposedly would have predicted it was the following: “The great lightning strikes by day, badly and predicted by a postulated bearer: the following omen falls at night, conflict in Reims, London, Etruscan bubonic”.
However, this year he would not have been left behind with what has been the great death of a public figure, Queen Elizabeth II of England. “The sudden death of the first character will be changed and they will put another in her kingdom”, she collected in one of her poems.
The war in Ukraine and the corresponding rise in inflation have been the other big issues that have marked 2022 and, yes, apparently Nostradamus also has texts to which these two events that have convulsed the international scene could be attributed.
Regarding the skyrocketing prices, the French apothecary announced that “honey will cost much more than candle wax; the price of wheat is so high. While on the Russian invasion in Ukraine, he went so far as to point out that: “Around the Big City there will be soldiers housed in fields and suburbs.” It is difficult to ignore that this was how the so-called “special military operation” by the Kremlin started, with a few days in which the Russians came to surround the capital, kyiv.
Nostradamus’ predictions for the coming year
What can come in 2023 may not be very encouraging for the most part. Or not encouraging. There are those who see the possibility that Nostradamus has prophesied the beginning of what would be the Third World War, after speaking of “seven months of the great war, people killed for evil.”
Another points to climate change and its aggravated effects and even the explosion of a nuclear bomb: “For 40 years the rainbow will not be seen; for 40 years it will be seen every day. The dry land will become more arid and there will be great floods wherever they are seen.”
On the contrary, there is another prophecy that could be interpreted as the arrival of man on the red planet, since it mentions that a light “would fall on Mars”.
Just as cryptic is another that could symbolize the departure of Pope Francis from the Vatican and the proclamation of a new leader in the Catholic Church, a dark and dangerous person, who could bring about a great world religious conflict.
And he has left a curious prediction that could affect the United States in the form of conflicts, instability and social discontent during 2023. This would be accompanied by a “new world order”, where a man and a woman would work side by side to improve the world situation, although that alliance would be brief.
