For the Nintendo Switch, 2023 already promises to be a great year, with many exclusive titles, both new and remastered, on the horizon. The popular console is now in its sixth year, but it’s still going strong and Nintendo continues to produce high-quality games. With the current mix of remasters and new content on the way, Nintendo will remain the focus of players’ attention in 2023. For many years fans have been eagerly awaiting games like the sequel to Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4, but it seems that the wait for these games may soon be over. Other titles, such as Disney Illusion Island, have been announced in recent months and have already garnered a lot of attention. While many more non-exclusive games are on the way, many Switch-exclusive titles have also been announced.
Fire Emblem Engage – January 20, 2023
The seventeenth title in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem Engage will feature several returning characters along with a new protagonist, Alear. Alear will be able to use Engage Rings to summon the powers of popular heroes from previous Fire Emblem games. The general gameplay will be similar to the other games in the series, apart from the new abilities of the Emblems and Engage rings, and four waves of content have already been announced for the expansion pass.
Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe – February 24, 2023
Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe is a remaster of 2011’s 4-player platformer Kirby’s Return To Dream Land. Originally released for the Wii, the remaster features updated graphics, a new Mecha Copy ability, and improvements to multiplayer. Also included is a new card-based minigame, Magolor’s Tomb Trackers. The Kirby franchise recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe is the latest in a wave of content featuring tough little pink Kirby, including a music festival, Kirby’s Dream Buffet games and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as well as new products.
The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – May 12, 2023
Winner of Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards 2022, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will finally be released on May 12th. It is the sequel to Breath of the Wild and was officially announced in 2019, although it has been in development since 2017. The trailers for the game show that this time Link will spend much more time in the skies in his attempt to defeat the evil that is spreading once again on Hyrule.
Metroid Prime 4 – TBD
Another highly anticipated game, Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced at E3 2017, however development of Metroid Prime 4 was restarted in 2019 by a new company after the original failed to meet Nintendo’s standards. At the moment the game does not have an announced release date, but many are hoping that it will make an appearance in 2023 thanks to the numerous leaks and rumors that have been circulating on the internet. However, there haven’t been any trailers or updates recently, so until Nintendo confirms a date, these remain just rumors and should be taken with caution.

Pikmin 4 – TBD
Pikmin 4 was announced in a Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022, but without much information other than its existence. The short teaser trailer that was shown gave a release date of 2023. It will be the first new game in the Pikmin series to come out in ten years, although a remastered version of Pikmin 3 for the Nintendo Switch came out in 2020, reigniting the interest in the series.
Disney Illusion Island – TBD
The newly announced Disney Illusion Island offers Mickey Mouse a platform gaming experience with all his best friends. The game seems to have a happy and light-hearted atmosphere and an art style similar to the animated series “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse”. Mickey is joined in this new adventure by Minnie, Donald and Goofy as they explore the mysterious island Monoth to find three mystical books that will save the world. The game can be played solo or co-op with up to 4 players to solve puzzles and battle enemies.

The first quarter of 2023 will be packed with Nintendo exclusive games releasing every week. More games are sure to be announced for the summer and beyond, and many games are still awaiting official launch dates but are expected to arrive later in the year. From remastered simulation games like Rune Factory 3 Special to exercise with Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, there’s plenty to come in the coming months.

While Metroid Prime 4 may still be a rumor, thankfully other games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have been officially announced. Remasters like Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe bring a nostalgic vibe, while others like Disney Illusion Island raise the excitement level for something new.
