River to River Indian Film Festival 2022: guest director Anurag Kashyap, Indian Quentin Tarantino

At the 22nd River to River Florence Indian Film Festival Anurag Kashyap, the “Indian Quentin Tarantino” who loves Vittorio De Sica.

He will be the award-winning director Anurag Kashyapconsidered the most influential contemporary author of the Indian Subcontinent, with a thirty-year career and more than 50 works – as director, producer, screenwriter, editor and actor – the special guest of the 22nd River River to River Florence Indian Film Festivalan event conceived and directed by Selvaggia Velo which tells the face of contemporary India scheduled from 6 to 11 December in Florence at the La Compagnia cinema (via Cavour 50/R) and online on the Più Compagnia platform in collaboration with MYmovies.it (www.cinemalacompagnia.it).

Known to the general public for having co-directed the acclaimed Netflix series Sacred Games and defined as “the Indian Quentin Tarantino” for authorial depth, narrative style and extreme characters, Kashyap will be at the festival to present his latest work “Almost Pyaar” for the European premiere “, a sparkling film about love, youth and taboo with an amazing soundtrack, and attend the screening of one of his most recent works: the supernatural thriller “Dobaaraa”.

A four-time winner of the Filmfare Awards, the highest honor for Hindi-language cinema, Kashyap has served as a juror at the Venice International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. Named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government for its contribution to the world of cinema in the year that India was a guest country at the Cannes Film Festival, British director Danny Boyle was inspired by him for the award-winning film Oscar “Slumdog Millionaire”. Master in portraying the darkest India, beyond the glamor of Bollywood, he began his directorial career at the age of nineteen, abandoning his scientific studies after being struck by the vision of “Bicycle Thieves” by Vittorio de Sica .

We hope that cinema can return to being a unique and unrepeatable collective experience”.

A 2022 edition, that of River to River, full of side events, talks, exhibitions, fashion shows and projects, food and wine explorations for an all-round “India experience”.

Also noteworthy is “Azioni Corsare”, a theatrical co-production in homage to Pier Paolo Pasolini on the 100th anniversary of his birth, signed by River to River and La Città dei Lettori. For the occasion, the Murmuris theater company will bring performative moments to the festival with readings from two texts by the great writer, director and poet: “L’odore dell’India” and “Scritti corsari”. This will be followed by the screening of “Notes for a film on India”, with which Pasolini documents the suburbs of Mumbai with a handheld camera.
