“Ultima Dea”, an emblematic and mysterious title for the latest novel by the writer Rita Cocuzza, published by Erga Edizioni, engaging, psychological, with a particular charm that originates from the ability to sink shamelessly into the minds of the characters that animate the plot.
“Ultima Dea” will be presented on Saturday 24 September, at 5.30 pm in the Stables staircase of the Castello Ursino Civic Museum in Catania. The author will discuss it with the journalist and writer Giuseppe Lazzaro Danzuso and the professor Amalia Mannino, professor of literature at the Liceo M. Cutelli. Actress Berta Ceglie will read some passages.
Art photography Nicoletta Fontana, who signed the cover image, will also speak at the meeting, moderated by the journalist Letizia Carrara. The collaboration of Rita Cocuzza with Erga Edizioni of Genoa was born last year, with the publication of the story “The friend rediscovered”, written jointly with Nicoletta Fontana, published in “Genesis of the new world”, a multi-sensory book with texts , videos, music and images of the winners of the creailtuolibro.com contest. “’Ultima Dea” is also available in an audio book version by downloading the Vesepia app. The first novel by Rita Cocuzza, entitled “Vòltati”, published by the Aracne publishing house, dates back to 2009, in which she carefully investigates the evolution of “sentiment” in the new millennium, linked to depth and to the female body.
“Ultima Dea”, starts from a land of myths, in the shadow of a smoking volcano, Sicily, where mysterious chthonic divinities, guardians of female secrets, of dark magic and ancient rites, walk among us. Women, sisters, mothers, whose identity is revealed little by little, examples that allow us to clarify our feelings. And they guide us in that path of change and growth that is existence.
How deep, absolute, does a love have to be to be considered perfect? And how much divine and supernatural is there in it? Or of a human being, in the possession and gift of oneself? These are all questions that run through the novel, developing around the life of the protagonist Stella, her changes, her loves and her passions, following the course of her journey. A metaphorical journey, which will lead you, but also the reader, to get lost in order to find themselves.
“How many Truths can there be? How many forms of Beauty? ” Matteo Pastorino, psychologist and writer, who signed the preface, also questions himself. “The soul and the body of the protagonist Stella merge, sometimes it almost seems as if they swap places, in favoring her incredible ability to feel emotions and feelings. Vivid sensations and movements of the heart so strong as to cancel reason, to literally submit it to her body and to everything we can do about it, from love to madness. The desire that is articulated between mind and body is perhaps that place where we will really find ourselves for the first time and, above all, in the most exhaustive way … Let Stella lead us there ”.
