Rome, 1943, under Nazi occupation, the Eternal City welcomes the circus where Matilde, Cencio, Fulvio and Mario work like fairground freaks. Israel, the owner of the circus and father figure of this small family, tries to organize their escape to America, but he disappears. With numbers where the fantastic gently illuminates the daily life of the Italian public, “Freaks Out” opens with the most beautiful naive magic of a representation of an ephemeral circus. A very good original film mixing different genres (drama, horror, war, fantasy,..) The main and secondary characters are all colorful and well developed. The heroine is fantastic. The film is very good despite its length. An excellent film to discover especially at the cinema for the sound and image work.

Genesis
After the superheroes in They Call Me Jeeg Robot, director Gabriele Mainetti and screenwriter Nicola Guaglianone have decided to tackle monsters. It was the latter who had the idea for this subject, passionate about this theme which he had already been able to explore in another film, Indivisibili, on Siamese twins. Mainetti, for his part, was more reserved: “I was rather skeptical. I had not yet imagined at this moment

Understand the villains
The director wants to give a real thickness to the villains in his films: “The villains that I find the most frightening in the history of cinema are those who hide a flaw, a suffering […]. This is why, when approaching the character of Franz, we looked for the reasons why he let evil enter his life. I think emphasizing all the facets of the characters, even the most ina
