A HISTORICAL Luka Doncic bends brave Blues!

Luka Doncic was just too strong! On cloud nine, the prodigy led Slovenia to victory against the France team (88-82) this Wednesday on the last day of the group stage of Eurobasket 2022.

This result allows the Slovenians to finish in first place in this pool. At the same time, the Blues, qualified, finish in 3rd place with an 8th to come against Turkey on Saturday.

With 47 points, Doncic therefore achieved the best performance of the modern era of the tournament ahead of Niko Galis (46 points). Simply incredible !

For the French, this match still has positive lessons. A real collective hardness (even without Guerschon Yabusele at rest) and individualities (Rudy Gobert, Thomas Heurtel and Elie Okobo) which are gaining momentum.

A superb start, the Luka Doncic show!

For this last match of the group stage, the Blues started with seriousness in the wake of a duo Evan Fournier– Active Gobert. Embarrassed by the defense of Terry TarpeyDoncic struggled to respond to the French captain, on fire with 7 quick points.

Suffocated by the French defense, the Slovenes had to settle for 4 small points, all on the free throw line, in 5 minutes. Unfortunately, France, too clumsy, spoiled this superb start by suffering the rise of Doncic (19-20).

Way too easy on face switches Vincent Poirier, the Dallas Mavericks prodigy feasted and chained the award-winning baskets. Despite the heat stroke (very hot) from Doncic and many lost balloons, France managed to stay in the game by limiting the damage thanks in particular to a skilful Okobo behind the arc.

Despite a Doncic (27 points at the break!) still supernatural, the reigning Olympic vice-champion was hunched over. And resisted by insisting inside. The end of the quarter was marked by a bleeding Doncic after an involuntary blow from Poirier (40-44).

Blues with heart, Slovenians at the finish

Upon returning from the locker room, the Slovenian star, stitched up, continued his festival. Serious collectively and helped by the clumsiness of the opponent, the French remained totally in the game. Thanks in particular to Tarpey’s still valuable work in defense.

Despite a sometimes astonishing arbitration (to put it mildly), the men of Vincent Collet played with great toughness to compete in the game. With the muscles, Gobert was gaining strength and showed response against a Luka Doncic who was still in good shape. And finally, on a final award-winning basket from Okobo, the Blues even came back tied (64-64).

As since the start of the game, the two teams were, literally, blow for blow. Always intense, France struggled to find offensive solutions. She even took a 7-point gap on a three-point shot fromEdo Muric.

Despite a historic Doncic in front, the Tricolors did not let go. And they still managed to pick up thanks to the XXL efforts of Gobert, author of a dunk poster on the Slovenian star! On an and-one from Fournier, France even completely revived the debates at 82-82. But at the end, with a good contribution of Goran DragicSlovenia snatched this success (82-88).
