“Fuck it”, “I’m going to cry”: Netflix cancels another cult animated series, Internet users can’t get over it

Since the beginning of January 2023, cancellations rain down on Netflix. As for animated series, the streaming platform has already put an end to InsideJob, an irreverent fiction that pokes fun at conspiracy theories. On this January 13, 2023, fans of adult anime formats also learned of the cancellation of Dead End, a series about two teenagers and a talking dog joining forces to defeat the demons that haunt an amusement park and thus save the world from a possible supernatural cataclysm. The series has been praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ characters and has earned a 100% score on the Rotten Tomatoes review site. Originally called Dead EndiaNetflix has ordered the 20 episodes of the show Dead End: Paranormal Park in 2020 and then uploaded season 1 in June 2022 and the second in October of the same year. After two rounds of thrilling episodes, Netflix has decided to end Dead End. Showrunner Hamish Steele announced the news on Twitter.

Hamish Steele announced the cancellation of the series to his followers on Twitter with a touching statement : “I’ve been holding this news for a while now, hoping that we could reverse it, change it, do something good with it. But unfortunately, I don’t think that’s possible at this time. It’s with a heavy heart. that I’m telling you that Dead End is over. Obviously, we never intended that to be the case. In fact, we had started writing for season 3. We have scripts, designs and plans ready. It was always intended to give these characters the ending they deserve. But unfortunately, the powers that be don’t want it anymore. I want to acknowledge my gratitude to Netflix for commissioning the series and for giving us the freedom to tell this story. We made history together and I couldn’t be more proud of those twenty episodes and every member of our team.” He also thanks the fans for their support and hopes that Dead End or bought by another streaming platform. This is also the wish of the spectators, many of whom express their disappointment with the cancellation of the project.
