The archbishop announced the pastoral provisions of those who come to the Virgen del Cerro

The Archbishop of Salta, Monsignor Mario Antonio Cargnelloreleased a statement regarding the pastoral care of the faithful who practice private devotion to the Immaculate Mother of the Divine Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (Virgen del Cerro).

The prelate recalled that all the churches, temples and parishes of the archdiocese are available to the faithful and pilgrims who, in the practice of private devotions, wish to approach the sacrament of Reconciliation, participate in the mass or require in any other way of spiritual assistance.

Likewise, it ordered that the presence of priests be promoted to facilitate the encounter with Christ in the sacrament of Forgiveness, and that priests from other ecclesiastical jurisdictions who accompany pilgrimages and want to preside over masses, request prior authorization.

Monsignor Mario Cargnello also anticipated that, for next December 10, the date on which the participation of many faithful in the Cerro is expected, he will designate who will preside over the celebration in the place.

“In any case, the authorization of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and the administration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation exclusively implies a way of guaranteeing the access of pilgrims to the spiritual goods administered by the Church, without being understood as an authorization , legitimation or anticipation of the judgment of the Church regarding the possible supernatural nature of the events and messages that surround this private devotion”, he pointed out.

Provisions

“1. That, as usual, all the churches, temples and parishes present in the Archdiocese are at the disposal of the faithful and pilgrims who, in the practice of particular devotions, wish to approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation, participate in the Holy Mass or require any other form of spiritual assistance.

2. That, likewise, as also happens, when there is a particularly large concentration of faithful in the practice of said particular devotion, the presence of priests will be promoted to facilitate the encounter with Christ in the Sacrament of Forgiveness.

3. That, if any priest from outside the archdiocese is in the territory accompanying pilgrimages or particular devotions, and wishes to celebrate the Holy Mass, he may do so, upon request and express authorization of the parish priest who holds the jurisdiction in which he wishes to celebrate.

4. That, given that on December 10, 2022 the presence of many faithful on the Hill is expected on the occasion of the particular devotion they practice, in order to facilitate their access to the Eucharist, the celebration of the Holy Mass is authorized in the place designating for that purpose who will preside over said celebration.

5. In any case, the authorization of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and the administration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation exclusively implies a way of guaranteeing pilgrims access to the spiritual goods administered by the Church, without being understood as a authorization, legitimation or anticipation of the Church’s judgment regarding the possible supernatural nature of the events and messages surrounding this private devotion. Such a judgment concerns the competent authority of the Church, before which every believer must submit. Words such as apparitions, miracles, and the like used in said particular devotion must be understood with the value of human testimony, as the promoters of private devotion themselves manifest.”
