‘There’s Something Wrong with the Children’ (2023) Film Review: Another Blumhouse Horror

There’s Something Wrong with the Childrensomething like “Something Happens With Our Children” is a horror movie from the blumhouse directed by Roxanne Benjamin starring zach gilford, Amanda Crew Y alisha wainwright.

A Serie B movie like “friends in a cabin” with terrifying children by means… but without corn.

Argument

After Margaret and Ben go on a weekend trip with their lifelong friends, Ellie and Thomas, and their two young children, something supernatural begins to occur when Ellie and Thomas’ children begin to behave strangely. after disappearing into the woods overnight, making Ben suspect something supernatural is going on.

Movie review

A film divided into two parts, which takes time to start and which is hard to get into despite its promising beginnings (with those fluorescent credits and good camera movement). Then he relaxes, gives us a presentation of somewhat insignificant characters (daddies and mommies a little fed up with existence) and then leads us to terror… with a touch of fun.

Technically it is well achieved, less in the photographic than the sound section, it has a fairly decent script, with interesting dialogues and the situations are well handled… sequence by sequence. Roxanne Benjamin knows how to direct each scene and give it something special despite being a low-budget movie (it’s the Blumhouse, we’re not going to discover anything new). Good use of the camera, which she knows how to move to create the necessary tension and introduce us to terror.

The theme… takes time to start and to take us to the true essence of the film, deliberately breaking the rhythm of the movie in the middle and consciously breaking into something much more interesting.

It is not going to change your life, nor is it intended to: it wants to be a good genre horror movie that, without falling into pretentiousness and consciously using “genre” elements, knows how to defend itself on the ground it treads on.

That yes, little more. A film that does not aspire, neither by budget nor by script, to offer us that “something more” that we probably needed.

Many almost referential eighties elements that give it “its touch” and grace.

Our opinion

A movie that, unfortunately, cannot go beyond average. It has funny scenes, well shot, but overall it is still one of those that, unfortunately, “lacks something” (or enough) to stand out.
